“Lock the box and leave it all behind”…

~

She’s taken all her memories…
And placed them in a box…
Then hidden it out of view…
Making sure it’s closed and locked…

Each one is tinged with pain…
Like a dagger through her heart…
They fuel her whole neurosis…
It’s causing her to fall apart…

She can’t control the flashbacks…
Or the emotions that they bring…
And like a mournful recurring dream…
She’s forever trapped within…

She’s racked with so much guilt…
And filled with so much shame…
Her ravaged mind tormented…
She’s convinced she is to blame…

The hands of time aren’t healing…
Passing seconds feel like hours…
She could end it any moment…
But they’d brand her a gutless coward…

So she keeps living every day…
In her mental prison cell…
Convinced she could’ve saved him…
Or caught him as he fell…

She looked away for a second…
Distracted by a noise…
In that time he lost his footing…
Two lives forever destroyed…

He fell into the water…
Hit his head on a hidden rock…
Poseidon took his victim…
She just froze in shock…

They never found his body…
Just his floating favourite toy…
Dragged into a cold watery grave…
She lost her one and only boy…

Now she just has memories…
And she locks them in that box…
Sits on the same bench hoping…
To see him, out there on the rocks…

“A Thousand, Million miles from home…”

~

Trapped behind a wall…
Deep within a well…
Couldn’t hear her call…
Couldn’t free her from the cell…

Eyes masked all the pain…
And the hurt she felt inside…
The pressure on her brain…
Like a part of her had died…

Never getting closer…
Feeling pushed away…
The clouds never blew over…
Her mind was led astray…

When she tried to find relief…
Words got in the way…
Mini daggers full of grief…
The one she love, they slay…

They hit him like a truck…
A knife within his heart…
His broken head got stuck…
Reality torn apart…

Couldn’t understand…
All he felt was numb…
How much could they withstand…
What had they become…

He really tried to focus…
Tried hard to work it out…
It felt like hocus pocus…
A dark sky full of doubt…

But when she finally opened up…
When she finally cracked…
Looking like a wounded pup…
Finally they made contact…

How could his eyes have been so blind…
How could his heart not see…
That she was never really “FINE”…
A lock without a key…

It pushed him to a deep dark place…
A place he never wanted to be…
And now he looks at her beautiful face…
His eyes have learned to see…

As time goes on, he’s made a vow…
A vow to stay awake…
Living in the here and now…
A promise never to repeat their mistake…

Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom…
Before you realise what you’ve got…
Sometimes you’ve just forgotten…
The one who means a lot…
