She lived her life…
Without living at all…
Her senses numbed…
Always fearing the fall…
With no electricity…
And without excitement…
Walking on the safe side…
Of life’s hard pavement…
Until one day…
A switch was flicked…
Deep inside her head…
She became bewitched…
By the simple notion…
Time was running out…
She began to scream…
And began to shout…
Rebelling against…
All that she knew…
All that she’d learned…
All she had held true…
And took to the water…
Infested by sharks…
Where the Devil resides…
Firing his poisoned darts…
As she sleepwalked the day…
Only awakening at night…
Where the cover of darkness…
Blocked out the light…
Her morals blinded by…
A new found treasure…
Disguising the things…
Bringing new found pleasure…
That left her thirsting…
And lusting for more…
Now this was “living”…
Of that she was sure…
Now she lives life…
Never fearing the fall…
Her senses alive…
Not caring at all…

I remember as a young teen seeing girls differently and they felt the same way about me. That change was magic, yet I fear that innocence lost the wrong ways. Expecting the worst and projecting the same. A self-fulfilling prophecy that steals discovery too young.
Thank you for your insightful comment – Cheers J
That wire is a difficult one to walk without falling to either side of it or slicing our bare-feet on.
Indeed it is Keith – Cheers J
There’s something about talking about a “her” in poetry…very nicely written. My both thumbs up.
Thank you Lexy – Cheers J
It is good to wake up and look around and see what it really going on. I liked you venturing out in the poem, the ending though made me sad. If you are still not sure you are in the right place perhaps its time to venture out further?
Thank you for your kind words Michelle – Cheers J
Beautiful… thought provoking… the imagery is fantastic. 🙂
Many thanks Andrew – Cheers J
