Paper Doll
Every day’s the same
Open dead eyes
Stare at the creature
In the glass
The bare canvas unmarked,
Untainted it seems.
Still, she takes the brush
And daubs away the cracks
Chinks, chips,
Fractures and fissures
Of the fragmented shell
Scars from the fall
Where she’d been left
On the cold concrete
In brittle pieces
Alone
Her guise of blush
And lips painted red
Mask the flimsy case
Holding a hollow heart
The paper doll
In a cut-throat world
Wonderful words. I could sense the emotion. Thank you.
