“I thought I heard the captain’s voice”…

The captain’s voice echoed…

Across the stormy sea…

Skimming the cruel waves…

A last desperate plea…

He’d battled sea monsters…

Sea devils and demons…

Fought Neptune’s storms…

And lost all his crew men…

But now he stood there…

Exhausted and alone…

After one final challenge…

Before setting for home…

As she’d got in his head…

And infected his brain…

With an invisible madness…

That drove him insane…

Hearing her quiet whispers…

In the blackness of the night…

Seeing strange dark shadows…

In the cold pale moonlight…

And convinced he saw her…

In the corners of his eyes…

This Queen of the Mermaids…

Who’d hypnotised his mind…

She’d become his obsession…

He had needed to see more…

He was desparate to hold her…

Before heading back for shore…

So he’d set out to find her…

In the midst of a great storm…

But with no stars to guide him…

He ended up lost and forlorn…

In the midst of the oceans anger…

And waves climbing so high…

He now clings to the mast…

With tears in his eyes…

Standing there calling…

Her name out to sea…

Where nobody can help him…

Or hear his last plea…

I will have you at your will
But you are out of reach still
Trapped by feelings of guilt
I wait for the balance to tilt
For the sands of her time to run out
Dry deserts to give up the drought
A fresh start after a long dark night
Chance to bathe in warm sunlight
To drink from the fountain of true love
You must climb to reach me above
She has the power complete
I believe I cannot even compete.

She screeches in the night
Blood curdling accusations
Passionately wants to fight
She has a hold on you
How can I compete?

Talons dig in deep
Fingernails clawing you back
While I lie here at your tethered feet
She will never release you
How can I compete?

Staying by her devilish side
The enemy best wrestled closer
Timed moves to escape will arrive
But she won’t let you out of sight
How can I compete?

Pulling at your torn heart strings
Ripping further your tortured soul
The line reels you back in
She cannot unhook you
How can I compete?

Years of memories bond
Playing all her cards
The ace of hearts and beyond
She always wins you back
How can I compete?

Her naked charms persist
Open to tempt you to stay
Not able to protest or resist
She embraces with wicked smile
How can I compete?

In darkness trying to break free
Chains tighten and cut skin
Tears flesh just to be with me
She strengthens the links
How can I compete?

A poisonous spell intoxicates
Forms hallucinations of happiness
Keeps you in a drugged state
She makes you believe her
How can I compete?

Trying hard to leave the den
While hawklike attention’s turned
Undercover efforts deepen
She builds the walls higher
How can I compete?

With mind set on freedom’s gate
The path laden with clever traps
Yet still you risk your fate
She tries to keep you attached
How can I compete?

She devil sees you’re stronger
Midnight wails at her loosening grip
The eternal ties hold no longer
She cannot halt free will?
How can I compete?

I will have you at your will
My open arms calm and still
You walk at your pace towards me
My patience rewarded by what I see
A man who loves me and has choice
Comes to me with truth in voice
Embracing and falling deep
Equals in the life we seek
I am who I am, you are who you are
We accept each other so far
Finally together on our window seat.
I realise I didn’t have to compete.

Keeping a distance…
Away from the hate…

Hiding all feelings…
Behind a traitor’s gate…

That stands tall and strong…
Providing protection…

Allowing the prisoners…
Space for reflection…

And time to consider…
What is the next move…

So many options…
But so little to choose…

As the mountainous path…
That was once followed…

Is now over grown…
The weeds have swallowed…

Making it difficult…
To keep on the right…

Whilst avoiding the wrong….
That comes out at night…

And blinds the eyes…
That once could see…

It was perfectly clear…
But now it’s muddy…

Leading to confusion…
Messages that are mixed…

Points of view distorted…
No hope they’ll be fixed…

By words or by deeds…
No matter the intention…

The river now too wide…
No bridges to mention…

Just the edge of the abyss…
That draws people in…

Across the white line…
Where only the Devil wins…

Becoming a limbo state…
Where nothing is resolved…

And the bitterness festers…
For all parties involved…

She took the pills…
To help her sleep…

Changing her dreams…
From nightmares to sweet…

To silence the voices…
Inside her head…

Constantly reminding…
She’s better off dead…

And to halt the visions…
Behind her eyes…

The monsters and devils…
And demons who fly…

Twisting and tormenting…
Around her fragile mind…

Always so bitter…
And so very unkind…

Until she got to the point…
There was no return…

Just too much pain…
Too many bridges burnt…

That left her standing…
In this world, all alone…

Nobody to help her…
No Samaritan to phone…

There was no white knight…
To halt her distress…

Living in solitude…
A life of inner stress…

That left her fighting…
To get through each day…

Then facing her tormentors…
As they came out to play…

But then she decided…
Enough was enough…

She could no longer face it…
Decided to give up…

So she took the pills…
To silence the screams…

And in her eternal sleep…
There will be no more dreams…

The dark storm rages

In the blackness outside…

As the battle for control

Continues on the inside

Two war torn factions

Fighting in his brain…

Perpetually ongoing…

Driving him insane

The good and the bad…

The Angels and Demons…

That rip him in two

But no one can see them

Invisible to the eye

At a glance you can’t see…

He keeps it all covered

Tries to keep it unseen

Projecting another version…

So weakness can not scream...

Yet he’s broken inside

Falling apart at the seams

In need of some help

In need of urgent therapy…

Desparate for distraction…

Trying to find “happy”

He doesn’t know who to ask…

Or know what to do…

Hampered by his foolish pride…

And his distorted view

On everything around him

Of everything he sees…

All that he holds dear…

And all that he believes

Feeling so very weak

And so very insecure

Depression spreads like cancer…

He can’t find the cure

Leaving him clinging

On to life by a thread

Aware of the easy option

Pills. Alcohol. Dead...

The underground killer…

With death in his eyes…

An invisible evil…

A perfect disguise…

No one ever sees him…

Or gives a second glance…

His victims are random…

And don’t stand a chance…

As he selects the weak…

Then stalks his prey…

Timing his attacks…

And in minutes they lay…

Dead on the ground…

In a pool of warm blood…

And as he walks away…

The feeling of power floods…

Pulsates through his veins…

Leaving him so elated…

This addictive emotion…

That he alone has created…

And needs to be fed…

When night time falls…

As his thirst rises…

And he hears the call…

Of the cold hearted killer…

That lives deep inside…

Intent on stealing souls…

And enjoying the ride…

On a fairground attraction…

But never paying the price…

Just intent on the killing…

He doesn’t think twice…

As the underground killer…

Has perfected the art…

Of killing them softly…

Then removing their hearts…

Before moving on silently…

Towards his next kill…

Empowered by the glory…

Entranced by the thrill…

He doesn’t know what…
What you want him to say…

Doesn’t even know…
How he is feeling today…

He doesn’t even know…
What or how to feel…

Yet you ask him to talk…
Ask him to reveal…

You ask him what…
What it is he is thinking…

But his mind is numb…
And his heart is sinking…

All of his life…
He’s kept his emotions at bay…

Don’t you see how easy it is…
Just to lock them away…

If he let them loose…
He would be terrified…

So he keeps them near…
It’s how he’s survived…

It doesn’t mean…
That he’s not keeping you close…

You are the person…
He is needing the most…

Sometimes he needs to be alone…
Open your eyes and see…

Somedays it’s not you…
It’s simply all he can be…

And he has to get through this…
But be true to himself…

So he is leaving the demons…
High on the shelf…

In his dreams they still haunt…
They will always replay…

But it’s a battle he will face…
Some other fucking day…

So please understand…
He can’t do what you do…

He does things his way…
It’s how he gets through…

It’s got him this far…
He’s got to go with his gut…

So the doors are all closed…
And all the windows are shut…

Today it is Black…
Tomorrow may be too…

But no matter what…
Remember he loves only you…
