“Freedom comes when you learn to let go”…

~

She had to leave,
she had to fly away…

Promising to return,
perhaps, maybe, someday…

From the distant shore,
that would become home…

Far over the ocean,
away from all she’d known…

Beginning again and
starting life anew…

She’d never come back,
in his heart, he knew…

As he’d granted her freedom,
in letting her go…

She was his everything and
he’d let her know…

But she needed time and
she required space…

Nothing could stop her,
even the look on his face…

They said their goodbyes,
as she left with a bag…

She committed to contact,
but he’d raised the white flag…

Knowing he’d lost her,
trying to hide all his pain…

And the broken heart,
that drove him insane…

But she never looked back,
and quickly moved on…

Never feeling the same,
her heart sang a different song…

One that was now happy,
no longer feeling trapped…

The puppet strings cut,
her abusive master snapped…

As she had to leave and
find the courage to get away…

Never intending to return,
not even maybe, someday…

  1. A very emotional and heart-wrenching poem. It reminds me of the ballads that were being written in the 50s and 60s, but that might be just me. Couldn’t listen to the video here in Canada, and I’m not familiar with the tune. I’ll look it up on youtube in a bit. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I learned early-on that no matter how much it hurts, it’s better to be the leaver than the leavee. The one time I forgot that truth was the shortest “relationship” and the worst breakup of my life.

The power of goodbye is certainly great.

    Excellent song.
