~
The friends with benefits,
found out the hard way…
Now sat in a room,
with nothing to say…
Because what was once,
pure sexual distraction…
Had now become,
such a fatal attraction…
And those best laid plans,
which took some attention…
Predictably failed,
despite the best of intentions…
As where there’s sex,
there is always emotion…
And inevitably one party,
descends into that ocean…
Feeling taken for granted,
left feeling such a fool…
Whilst diving headlong,
into love’s deep pool…
And convincing themselves,
that it could be more…
It’s the real thing and
they should be adored…
As it seemed a good thing,
but was doomed not to work…
And as the battle ensues,
both parties get hurt…
Seeing shattered hearts,
fall slowly to the ground…
Whilst a deafening silence,
echoes all around…
As they look at each other,
from across the room…
Not making eye contact,
both filled with a gloom…
With all those benefits,
simply fading away…
These two friends are left,
with nothing to say…

wow – I’m in your poem from start to finish.
Maybe it was about you 🙂 – Glad you connected – Cheers J
😉
This is amazing, J! Simply loving it! So much powerful emotions in it. Absolutely a good wow ^^
A good wow – that always makes me happy! Thank you – hope you are having a good weekend 🙂 – Cheers J
My weekend was great! 🙂 Hope yours is too 😉
No mutual ground, no liability, no future.
Agreed – but am sure some make it work on some levels, but that damn emotion thing…. Cheers J
Well, well … 🙂
J,
Wow, wonderful job of capturing that unspoken awkwardness, as a friendship/relationship, defined or not defined unravels with no real emotional resolution. Especially with this situation, that clearly had no expectations to involve the emotion of love to begin with. This poem is so good, so spot on, and those feelings that you describe are so horrible when experienced. Another great piece, thank you!

Thanks Pepper – I guess you hit the nail on the head – If no expectaions becomes something more by only one party, then it’s always doomed to fail – Cheers J
It’s an exquisite kind of pain, this heartache; it is as undeniable as it is incurable.
Thank you Mrs Fever and yes, the lyric in the song is so powerful – sadly, I could only fit in the first part, which still works as a stand alone title I feel – Cheers J
I always get a chuckle out of people who think that sex’s main reason is procreation (It’s an old person thing) or even enjoyment. Sex is one of our best methods of bonding and when we use it for simple entertainment we throw away so much.
Insightful as ever Keith – thank you – I trust you are well – Cheers J
Every time J! Every time…… ☺️X
