“You’re not quite lovers and you’re not quite friends”…

Is it really over and finally broken…
Enchanted words, no longer spoken…

The spell they cast…
Wasn’t meant to last…

Remembered forever…
But repeated never…
Ties designed to sever…

And be detached…
Feelings dispatched…
The door closed, then latched…

Balance being restored…
Conversation now verging on bored…
A face in the crowd, simply ignored…

As the thrill slowly departs…
Leaving shattered minds and hearts…

Beamed back to reality…
They escaped with some version of sanity…

As everything faded, whilst time moved on…
What was once there, has now gone…

And upon reflection…
In cold contemplation…

It’s not the same…
Leaving just a mind game…

And the sweet memories…
When their eyes are closed and they truly see…

What it really was…
What it could have been…
From within the darkness…
Unspoken and unseen…

But they knew deep down, this day would come…
And all the strands, would come undone…

Leaving them back at the start…
Their souls tarnished as they drifted apart…

Searching for a new distraction…
A different kind of interaction…
Without the friction, but all the traction…

Because it’s really over and finally broken…
But the inner beast, has now been awoken…

  1. Evening I joined the local poetry scene 2012 after almost 3 decades of not reading.Since I have read a lot of poems yours are amongst the best I’ve read.I hope to learn from you.Another good track.

    • Really kind words and feel humbled that you say that – it’s much appreciated as I still don’t consider myself a writer / poet – this is just something I do for distraction! Glad you are enjoying! Cheers J
