“And you put on a wonderful show”…

Downfall-of-Icarus-675x900

~

A wonderful man…

The version they see…
And think of so highly…
Some perhaps want to be…

So meek and so mild…
But occasionally wild…

Always helpful, so kind…
Would stop for the blind…

Or feed a random homeless…
And assist those feeling worthless…

The original nice guy…
Provided for them, as years go by…
Picked them up when they cry…

The one they all turn to…
The one who sees them through…

The one they depend on…
In the midst of confusion…

And take for granted…
As if he was planted…

Like a tree in the corner…
Or an unseen mourner…

Surrounded by Black…
But no one sees that…

Or scratches the surface…
Or really look at his face…
Where he hides his disgrace…

All his secrets and lies…
That he will always deny…
And as time passes by…

This wonderful man…

Keeps up the pretence…
Against all common sense…

Won’t let them see…
What’s inside and
how dark he can be…

In the heat of the moment…
When letting go of self-torment…

He can do anything…
To make his broken soul sing…
Taking flight on sinners wings…

But when too close to the sun…
After whatever was fun…

Like Icarus he falls…
And the darkness again calls…

Pushing him back…
From light into Black…
As the inner voices attack…

Forcing him to resolve…
These problems his alone to solve…

And once again become…
That quiet wonderful one…
