“If we are going to Hell, we might as well enjoy the fall”…

god

Is he still a good person…
If Jesus is not in his heart…
If he doesn’t believe in religion…
And he didn’t agree from the start…

Does it mean he is a Devil…
Someone to be despised…
To be considered a mortal horror…
When viewed through someone else’s eyes…

Is he going to be banned from heaven…
The place we all should aspire to…
Will the spirit elevator just take him down…
To the basement below level two…

Is he destined to walk the Earth forever…
Because no one will take his soul in…
Should he start to hedge his bets…
And perhaps let one of them win…

Does it mean that his soul is branded…
As simply not a worthy man…
Because he won’t get on his knees…
And shout “God, I’m your biggest fan”

And even if that’s what he did…
Which God would want him the most…
So many of them to choose from…
And he’s lacking a quiz show host…

If he sits and asks for forgiveness…
Beg to be cleansed of his sins…
Confess all his crimes on a night time…
Perhaps one of them may let him in…

He’s got time to figure this out…
But only God knows just how long…
As the end is getting closer…
Will God tell him if he calls it wrong…

Because religion doesn’t inspire him…
It looks like a cult for the damned…
There are ones that abuse its children…
And others who blow up their men…

Some people will knock on his door…
And tell him about this mythical being…
What do they know that he doesn’t…
What does he miss that they’re seeing…

So please, is he still a good person…
If Jesus doesn’t enter his heart…
If he doesn’t buy into religion…
By the time he is due to depart…

  1. Such an excellent poem and also an excellent question. I’d say that no man could ever possibly know exactly what God wants from them unless he tells them himself, everyone else claiming to know what’s best for you is obviously only interested in what’s best for themselves!

  2. Heavy poem, on a heavy subject. Hmm… Trying to make this easy, but I’ll likely botch the delivery, for efficiency sake.
God as Father of some people in life
Fathers talk to their children at times
Therefore, Father God talking to some people in real life, at times.
IMO Religion is an indoctrination or form of schooling and loving God doesn’t seek to gain any robots, but is rather about voluntary relation/cooperation. “religious spirit” comes to mind, which can be outright demonic oppression.
And I agree, mere men and women following their own natures or a malignant/false spirit are not interacting with others for purely altruistic reasons. People have no capability of notifying anyone about how people are given the option to be truly turned toward God (conversion or whatever one calls it) without God (and in the Jesus of Natsareth belief, Jesus’s life included as the one and only pathway) being within the whole process.
tl;dr: Belief in God and knowing God, is ultimately between singular people and God (and His Son, for Messiah-from-Natsareth believers),
BTW these poems of yours have a significant effect/affect upon reading, as I imagine all decent poems should:)
